Dumfries & Galloway, the often-overlooked South West corner of Scotland, is only 1 hour on the M74 from Carlisle, or 1.5- 2 hrs south from Glasgow/Edinburgh. Sometimes described as Scotland in minature from the Galloway Hills to the Solway Firth, the region provides many attractions and activities.

Heading South on the M6/M74

Take M74 towards Dumfries. Leave M74 at Moffat and Dumfries turnoff (A701). Continue on A701 for about 17 miles to Dumfries, pass Locharbriggs and Heathhall areas. At the large roundabout (Dumfries By-pass), take the right hand lane signed A75 Stranraer.

Stay on A75 for about 6 miles, past two roundabouts. At the third roundabout take a left for A711 Dalbeattie and Colvend Coast (also signposted for Garroch Industrial Estate). Follow for half a mile or so, over a small roundabout, to another small roundabout.Turn right for Dalbeattie A711.

Follow A711 for about 11 miles to Dalbeattie. In Dalbeattie, see sign to left at Town Hall for Town Centre. For Colvend Coast, Kippford, Rockcliffe and Sandyhills, continue through Dalbeattie then follow A710 Solway Coast road (brown tourist signs for the Colvend Coast & Kippford) on left. 3 miles from Dalbeattie is the turn right for Kippford at Barnbarroch. Kipp Paddock is on the left after about 500 yards, past the 2 caravan parks on the left and Craigieknowes golf course on the right.

Heading North on the M6/M74

M6 then M74, then after Carlisle and Gretna, turn off for A75 Annan and Dumfries. About 3 miles from Dumfries pass Shell Garage on left and take a Right round the roundabout, signposted A75 Stranraer. Follow this route over further four roundabouts.Take a left for A711 Dalbeattie and Colvend Coast and follow further directions as above.

Heading from Ireland and the West

Follow A75 for Dumfries and exit to right after Castle Douglas, signposted Dalbeattie. Arriving at Dalbeattie, Colvend Coast road A710 is onthe right at the approach to the town, or continue straight on for Town Centre, turning right at the clock tower.

Heading from the East

Join A75 at Gretna for Annan and Dumfries, then follow directions as for coming North above.
